En attendant, je me repais d’images sur le web grâce à Pinterest, mon nouveau jouet, encore plus addictif que Flickr ou Twitter.  Kézako? Un outil pour gérer ses collections d’images glanées de ci de là sur la toile, un inspirational board comme disent les anglais. Sauf qu’avec Pinterest, on oublie les ciseaux et les punaises et on se régale.

I have not much to show these days but i’m working hard. I’ll be back soon to share my Mad Men dress, which colour will be vintage pink because i could not find any petrol bleu fabric that i liked  however hard i tried (and trust me i tried).

Anyway, i’ve started using an awesome website lately : Pinterest, which lets you pin and collect images on the web is totally addictive. I want to use it all the time and truly have been inspired by it. What you like tells a lot about who you are…  Actually, i’ve started noticing that some colours  popped up regularly : grey, deep red, mustard yellow, white and cream, navy blue.

This actually  drove me to think about colours more. That’s how i got to COLOURlovers, an nice website where you can create colour palettes and give a try to creating patterns (which you can then use to print at Spoonflower’s).  Make sure to have a look at the awesome contents the websites offers on all sorts of trends: the blog article about Mad men’s style and colours was of course a great find at a perfect timing!

Peter, du blog “Male Pattern Boldness” lance un sew-long pour une chemise. Le patron de base est “Negroni”, le premier patron masculin de Colette Patterns. Grosse pression vu le ryhtme de publication et la grande érudition couturesque de Peter. Mais il fallait bien un Sew-along pour que je me lance dans la confection d’une chemise : l’idée d’une manchette d’homme (ci dessus) me donne des sueurs froides… Ca démarre le 1er février. Qui d’autres se lance avec Peter? Evidemment, je n’allais pas me contenter d’un seul patron, j’ai aussi commandé la jolie robe Oolong – pour moi, of course!

Peter, from Male Pattern Boldness is having a Shirt Sew-along. The pattern we’ll be working on is “Negroni” from Colette Patterns (any other shirt pattern will do however). I think i really ineeded a sew-along to embark on this shirt journey. Interfacing and sleeve Plackets (above)  have always frightened me… Well, i guess all i have to do  now is to follow Peter’s posts and advice. The sew-along begins February 1st. Are you making a shirt too? Oh, by the way, i just could not order just one pattern, so i had to have the Oolong dress too.  Another project, too little time.i better get started!

As you probably know, Little Things to sew, Oliver + S ‘s first book is coming out in a few weeks. The big news today is that the book will apparently be published in France next fall. Some of my french friends who aren’t fluent in english will, for sure, be thrilled by this  news!

I’m still waiting to get my New Look pattern delivered. As i wait feverishly, i can’t stop obessing about Joan Holloway’s wardrobe. Antoinette wrote in a comment that she associated Joan with autumn colours. After searching the web and looking at way to many pictures of this gal, i think Antoinette is absolutly right: carmin red, mustard yellow, bold beige, emerald green, petrol blue, etc. I think i might just go for petrol blue.. What do you think readers? I really like this forest green above (nos as bold but more original i think : honestly, when was the last time you wore a forest green dress?!)

I love Mad Men. And i certainly love all those dresses worn by the sexy secretaries who have to put up with all those horribles bosses. Oh, how i love Joan Holloway’s dresses. So i’ve finally decided to give it a try and make my own Mad-Men-dress. New Look 6968 seems like the pattern to start from. Of course, it requires a solid colour. Navy blue, soft grey or maybe a bold red? What do you think? Who else is obsessed by the mad men styling?

N’allez pas vous y tromper, je ne suis pas bonne cuisinière. Mais tant qu’à être dans la cuisine autant y mettre une touche de funk! Ce tablier a été coupé à partir d’un vieux machin bien tâché et qui avait largement fait son temps. J’ai juste ajouté les volants et me suis assurée que les liens pouvaient être noués sur l’avant (je ne sais pas pourquoi, mais c’est important pour moi, sûrement parce que je ne sais pas faire un noeud dans mon dos…!)

Ah, j’oubliais presque : le tissu acheté en solde sur un coup de tête  chez Fabric Worm a bien fait de finir en housse de coussin parce que, franchement, je peinais à lui trouver un usage pour un “vrai” vêtement. En tablier, c’est aussi bien : il y a comme une ambiance  seventies dans ma cuisine. Yeah!

I’m not a good cook. But, you know, while you’re at it, why not try to look funky in the kitchen?
This apron was cut using an old one that had done its time (unwashable stains, hmm). I just added ruffles.

Oh, and, yes, I bought this fabric on a whim (on sale at Fabric Worm) and, up to know, i had not dared using for a “real”garment… (Would you have?!). To be honest, this fabric almost ended up as a pillow case. But i guess, as an apron, it brings back the flavor of the 70′s in my little kitchen!

Le rythme du blog a sévèrement ralenti ces derniers mois. Ce n’est pas faute de coudre et de bricoler pourtant. Mais je vais tenter d’être plus présente désormais. Promis: c’est une résolution 2011! Commençons donc avec du beau, du graphique, des imprimés…

Pour noël, j’ai reçu de mon adorable belle-soeur un très bel objet, le “Petit Pattern Book”. Il s’agit d’un livre japonais de 300 planches de motifs graphiques agrémenté du cédérom comprenant tous les fichiers numériques (formats jpeg et eps). Délices des yeux que ce joli livre, sans compter que j’ai de quoi m’amuser des heures avec Gimp et Photoshop, les motifs pouvant être utilisés pour embellir son site web, imprimer des cartes de voeux, et même imprimer sur tissu. Les conditions d’usage précisées à la fin du livre sont assez larges, y compris dans un cadre professionnel. Allez, je file m’amuser…

Le livre a été acheté à la Tate modern (chic, chic, chic) mais il est également disponible en ligne notamment chez Junku.

The blog has not received all the attention it deserves lately. But i am now very serious about making the effort to share articles more frequently with all of you (still reading?). After six months of very slow blogging, i’m back !
Let’s start with the review of a very precious gift i received from my sister-in -law for christmas. It’s the “Petit Pattern Book”, a japonese book with 300 graphic design patterns and the corresponding files (jpeg and eps). Apart from flipping with delight through the book, i will also be playing for hours with  the files with Gimp and Photoshop. The licence agreement associated to the files allows you to do many things, professional use included : designing websites, flyers, even fabric prints! Excuse me now, i’m off having some fun with this beauty.

PS: The book was bought in London at the Tate Modern (so chic!) but can also be ordered online. Junku japonese bookstore in Paris has it in stock but you may aslo get it from Amazon. ISBN is 9784861006531.

My favourite fabric shop in Lyon, “La maison des tissus“, burnt down yesterday. No one was hurt which is of course what matters most. The owners were so nice with all their custumers and the shop had the nicest selection . I don’t live in Lyon anymore (i movede this summer to toulouse) but I visited this shop so often in the last couple of years that i feel really sad today…
